“My own material existence I am reasonably assured of. I can imagine my friend at the other end of the line. But between us two there is an airy nowhere, inhabited by voices and nothing else[…]The vocal inhabitants of this strange region have an amazing vanishing quality[…] And sometimes…you hear the confused murmur of a hundred voices. You catch more expressions from private conversations than your nerves can transmit to the central office of your brain; and if you are imaginative, you may undergo, as I have, a feeling as if you had a hundred astral bodies that were guiltily listening at as many keyholes.”

publishing statement
strange region is fundamentally against all forms of racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism and classism. we aim, through our publishing practice, to challenge and disrupt systems of patriarchy, colonialism and white supremacy
strange region is solely run by joe vaughan, a white, cis-male
he is only able to run the press thanks to financial support from his family in the early days and the continued emotional support of his family and friends
he acknowledges this to dispel any illusion that the successes of strange region can be attributed to his hard work alone
we believe that publishing should not be the sole practice of the rich and the lucky
if strange region expands to incorporate additional staff or freelancers, staffing decisions and models of shared ownership will be developed with the guiding principle that there is a need to de-centre whiteness, and cis-maleness from both our cultural institutions, and all other institutions outwith
strange region supports the total liberation of palestinian people from colonial occupation
our solidarity extends to the people of all countries where the brutality of colonialism, and free market capitalism is felt
we publish because we believe art is good for us
